After working for many years in Corporate Canada, Jodie left to start a series of businesses relating to health and family.
Her experience with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) and infertility back in her twenties urged her to make some lifestyle changes to become healthier. This included ditching chemicals and finding natural alternatives for herself and her family wherever she could.
Out of desperation to find clean and natural deodorant that would promote health instead of harm, Jodie decided to launch her company, Clean Kiss, to ditch the chemical-filled and aluminum-based antiperspirants that are currently on the market.
This Skincare Chef is certified in Organic Skincare Formulation, a registered Yoga Teacher (RYT250), and has studied aromatherapy, nutrition, and is an avid student of life when it comes to health and wellness.
The creation of Clean Kiss is an extension of her advocacy for families to take charge of their health by reading labels, teaching that “What you put on your body, goes in your body” and encouraging families to find healthy personal care products that really work.
Clean Kiss now has a full line of skincare products that nourish your face, body, and hair with few, yet high powered optimal ingredients to get the job done.
They also support many health-related causes, especially for the Wellspring Birmingham Gilgan Cancer Centre in Oakville, Ontario, to which they’ve donated over 1000 deodorants to the people in their programs that are recovering from cancer and the volunteers that care for them.
As a sustainable skincare brand, they have implemented 7 ways to be sustainable throughout their entire supply chain and are working to onboard new initiatives every day.
The beauty, skincare, and personal care is an extremely competitive space, so launching a clean skincare line does come with some challenges.
“The skincare industry is growing rapidly around the globe and the competition is fierce. One of our biggest challenges is getting the word out about our brand in a cost-effective way that brings more customers to Clean Kiss.
We are always open to trying new tactics in the age of e-commerce and digital marketing. We still know at the end of the day that word of mouth from a trusted source is the best way to gain a new Clean Kisser!” – Jodie
So what makes their products different?
“Our Clean Kiss products are Clean at First Sight Skincare. Our ingredients are simple, easy to comprehend, higher powered, higher concentration, and provide optimal skin nourishment.” – Jodie
We asked Jodie what she would have done differently if she could go back and start the business all over again, and she said to have more patient and slow down.
“I am very Type A and entrepreneurial so when I come up with an idea, I literally want to start planning to launch it asap! It has resulted in some costly learnings and opportunities (not mistakes!) whereby I had to stop, at times literally start all over again, and plan it out more slowly with a more calculated approach.
I would also get clearer on my brand story and manifesto from the get-go. We just recently did a re-branding exercise and I finally feel that our raison d’être is so clear! It is an exciting time for Clean Kiss to start this new chapter in our evolution.” – Jodie
The future of Clean Kiss sounds so exciting, but as an ambitious entrepreneur, what exactly is this new chapter and what will it look like?
“My goal is to have Clean Kiss in every bathroom in Canada by 2025 and to educate all women about why they should be choosing healthier skincare options, given our skin is our largest organ.
I want to have a strong educational basis behind Clean Kiss, by offering educational resources to women about why choosing natural, chemical-free options are so important to your overall health.
It’s about health first, not beauty. As a society, we often put beauty before health, with dire consequences.” – Jodie
We’re teaming up with Jodie to bring you guys some awesome products!
